Dr Patricia Keane

Dr. Keane has a special clinical interest in Women’s Health and holds a Diploma in Women’s Health, and certificate in family planning and LARC (long-acting reversible contraception.


Services Provided include:

  • Menopausal & Perimenopausal Consultation:

Assessment of menstrual pattern, cognitive ‘brain fog’ changes, mood changes including anxiety or low mood/irritability, altered emotional tolerances, fatigue, sleep disruptions, hot flushes, joint pains, changes in bone health, heart health, skin, eyes, vaginal or vulval symptoms, reduced libido, urinary symptoms with bloods checked as required.

  • Well woman assessment:

Assessment incorporating full health screening and health promotion in a two-stage visit; first 30 minute appointment with nurse comprising weight, height, BMI, Blood pressure, ECG, urine test, and full bloods including full fasting bloods for diabetes, cholesterol liver function, kidney function, thyroid function and blood count. A second appointment with Dr. Keane follows two weeks later for review of results, full physical examination with a focus on gynaecological issues, bone health and cardiovascular health, and disease prevention advice.

Dr. Keane studies medicine at National University of Ireland, Galway and graduated in 2003. After her internship at University Hospital Galway and Portiuncula University Hospital, Dr. Keane travelled to Sydney, Australia and Wellington, New Zealand to work in specialties relevant to General Practice in another healthcare system and model. She gained experience Accident & Emergency, Pediatrics, General Medicine and Oncology.

 

Dr. Keane returned to Ireland in 2007 and commenced a four-year programme with Mid Leinster Specialist Training Scheme in General Practice which she successfully completed in 2011. Over that timeframe Dr. Keane also achieved Diploma in Medicine for the Elderly and developed special skill in Psychiatry of Later Life/The Elderly. On locating to Mayo, Dr Keane took up position of general practice assistant prior to succeeding Dr Kenneth Keane GP in Kiltimagh in 2014, when Kiltimagh Medical Centre was launched.

In 2017 Dr Keane and Dr Ronan Clancy formed their partnership and in 2018 together launched Swinford Medical Centre, which is now manned by Dr Clancy while Dr Keane remains in practice in Kiltimagh Medical Centre.
